From Athlete to Coach: My Journey in Fitness and Wellness
Embracing a Life of Health and Helping Others
Growing up in sunny San Diego, fitness was a way of life. I played soccer from age 4 to 30, as well as tennis, volleyball, and softball. Like so many, as I got older, my career took precedence over my health and fitness. A move to San Francisco, marriage, and two kids later, and I was 50 pounds overweight.
In 2023, I was the Membership Director at the YMCA and an avid pickleball player. We brought pickleball to the Y and, after teaching some casual lessons, I attained my PPR certification. The joy and affirmation I got from coaching others led me to transition from Membership Director to full-time Pickleball Coach.
As my fitness improved, I was determined to do more and keep going! I became stronger and motivated others as well. I knew that if I could get fit, anyone could! So I got my ACE personal training certification. And I'm currently working on becoming a nutrition specialist.
Working at the YMCA has brought so many amazing people into my life, both colleagues and clients. Working in an environment where people are exerting themselves can often lead to medical emergencies so all YMCA employees must have their CPR/AED First Aid certification. In order to ensure our employees got the best instruction, I got certified to instruct this important life-saving skill, and subsequently opened my own training center at PickleFit, LLC. I now lead this course all over Marin County to organizations in need.
Today, I am so fortunate to connect daily and support like-minded people along their health and wellness journeys, and those whose lives they may save along the way.
